History

The city of Slocomb received its name from the first settlers in the area, brothers Frank and Will Slocomb. Frank Slocomb established the Slocomb lumber company there in the late 1800s, and it is still in operation today. He also served as the first postmaster. When the Central of Georgia Railway came through in 1897 and made Slocomb one of its stops, a community grew up in the area. The first post office was established in 1901. The city’s economy depended then and now on agriculture.

The celebration is held at the peak of tomato season and different types and varieties can be purchased at the festival, the most popular being the Globe Tomatoes. A mecca of southern goodness in eastern Geneva County, Slocomb is known for growing the best tomatoes in the country. A quaint, candid farming town, Slocomb is proud of the hard work and row crops produced by area farmers.
